The First Visit with my son

Well, what a strange feeling this was I was so scared that he would not like me! I had no idea what to expect and if I was feeling like that how was this amazing little boy feeling!

Each day was different we visited places with the foster carer, I did an early morning getting him up and another day doing the night-time routine, we went shopping with both myself and the foster carer that was interesting because what went into her basket also went into mine and the following day, he came to my house for the first time and he went straight to the fridge to make sure the food was there!!

The second week of the introductions I was allowed to take him out on my own.  OMG, this was so scary being in charge of this little person.  I took him to a soft play centre, as we had visited with the foster carer! It was just so lovely he kept coming back to me with a big smile on his face.  He then spent more time at my house with me alone, getting used to me and our home.

We went for a walk one day around the local area and it was at this visit we were talking (he talked a lot, still does!) he said “mum can I have scrambled eggs when we get back”.

As you can probably imagine my heart just melted being called mum for the very first time! Not only that, he actually did not like eggs, so for him to want to try was huge!!! He had two mouthfuls a start.

The final visit to the foster carer was to actually pick him up and take him home! This was the hardest day for me and I know for the Foster Carer she had done such an amazing job with him.  We did not make too much of a fuss about it and we just went home to start our new life together.

After a few months, I was asked to write an article for a local magazine about Adopting as a single person.  Here is the Article!

The name was changed for obvious to protect me then!

This young child is now almost an adult!  We have had our ups and downs but overall, I am extremely proud of him and all that he has achieved so far and I am also proud to say that I am an adoptive mother to this young man!
