Fertility and Bananas! – Sole Fertility

Fertility and Bananas!

Now you may be thinking what an earth is that a picture of!  I will tell you it is actually a banana plant.  You can clearly see the bananas on the top. This is a picture I took on a recent holiday to Madeira and seeing this amazing plant got me thinking.

So why you ask am I showing you this plant, there is a very good reason for this?

This banana plant (MUSA is the Latin for banana). A banana is actually a herb and not a fruit.  It has two distinctive parts; the bottom red part is the male part and it never produces fruit and at the top just below the bananas are the female flowers that eventually turn into the fruit we know and love.

Looking to nature for our own health I think is vital it can very often show us what we need.  Using the banana as we are looking at that today.

Bananas are a great source of potassium which we need alongside sodium together known as electrolytes that help maintain fluid and blood volumes.  The correct balance will help balance blood pressure.

It can also boost male and female fertility as it is rich in vitamin B6 (a water-soluble vitamin, this means that our bodies will use what it needs and dispose of the rest through the urine system).  B6 helps to regulate women’s hormones and menstrual cycles.  Specifically, increasing the production of progesterone the hormone important in the second phase of our cycle helps make the uterine lining strong thereby increasing the chances of conception.

On the other hand, having low levels of B6 may mean that egg and sperm growth development could be depleted than it could be.

B vitamins are best used in the body altogether so having a balanced diet is essential.  The other B vitamin-rich foods that go alongside our B6 bananas include:-

Salmon. This all-around nutritious fish is high in many of the B vitamins

Leafy Greens. Several leafy greens stand out for their folate (B9) content. …

Liver and Other Organ Meats. …

Eggs. …

Milk. …

Beef. …

Oysters, Clams, and Mussels. …

Legumes.
